MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Welcome to the first e-newsletter of 2019. I hope that you managed to have a relaxing break over the summer and that your preparations for Welcome Week and for the new academic year are progressing well. On behalf of members of the Executive, may I wish you well for the year ahead.
Value Proposition & Communications Plan for colleges & halls of residence
Recent years have been challenging for many colleges both individually and collectively. Many colleges have undertaken cultural reviews and have implemented new programs and procedures to ensure that their residential communities are inclusive, welcoming, safe and nurturing places for students. We know that much good work has been done in this area and we commend members for their efforts. Each of us knows the positive outcomes and values of membership of collegiate educational communities. It is important that we find ways to promote these while also ensuring that the very nature of our communities is one where students feel welcomed, safe and able to thrive.
The Executive of UCA has been working on the development of a Value Proposition and Communications Plan for colleges and halls of residence. The development of the Value Proposition was the focus of discussion when members of the Executive met in Sydney in mid December. Apollo Communications was engaged to assist with this task and they have provided us with useful suggestions about how best to proceed. More work is needed and to this end, the Executive will meet in Adelaide in early March to progress the project. This is an important project and critical to the future direction of the Association and its members. We have a lot of work to do to develop the Value Proposition as well as the associated implementation plan. We hope that the outcomes of our work will be of value to all members and that the March meeting will result in outcomes that can be shared.
UCA Strategy Plan
Among other activities currently underway are the development of a new strategic plan, conversations and meetings with key stakeholders and partnership organisations and preparations for the Forum which will take place in Sydney from 2-4 October.
Collegiate Way International Conference
Together with other members of the Association, including Wayne Erickson, I will be attending the Collegiate Way International Conference at Rice University in Houston from February 7 to 9. Details of the conference program can be found at https://cwi2019.rice.edu noting the Wayne will present his paper, Cultural Renewal at The University of Sydney Colleges, at the opening session.
Once again, I wish you well for the year ahead and will be in contact again following the meeting in Adelaide in early March at which time I hope to have some results of our work on the Value Proposition and Strategic Plan to share with you.
Barbara Green
President
