Dear Members,

With new and returning students to be welcomed and orientation activities underway, I wish you all the very best for the 2021 college year.  I am sure there is much from 2020 that we would want to leave behind but I hope that the lessons learned, particularly from the lockdown here in Victoria, will help us move forward with a renewed appreciation of the strengths of our collegiate communities - and an ability to adapt to ever changing circumstances.

2021 Calendar of Events
As announced earlier this week, this year's Melbourne Forum, has been brought forward to coincide with The University of Melbourne's newly listed vacation week and will now be held from Monday 20th to the early-afternoon on Wednesday 22nd September.

Online Events:
Last year's series of facilitated online discussions proved popular and UCA will continue to offer these events with the following confirmed:
  • Webinars for Heads, Deans & Deputies
  • Heads' webinars: 'Conversations with Colleagues'
UCA's newly formed programme of Deans & Deputies seminars is yet to be finalised but we will have more to say on the Deans & Deputies network in the coming weeks.  In the meantime, see the Calendar of currently confirmed dates here

Online Forum: Tuesday 9 March
Our first webinar, for all Members, will be presented by Jeremy Boland, Head of Ursula Hall at ANU, who last year started a Young Men's Yarning Circle which is based on positive youth development theory and practice.  There is a set agenda for fortnightly catch-ups (e.g., sharing struggles and victories, learning from each other’s experiences, etc.), but the overall purpose is to engage the participants in discussion about identity and manhood. It is also designed to be a preventative program when it comes to respectful relationships.  Jeremy will share this framework and idea with the UCA community.
