Dear Members,

Our thoughts are with our Victorian colleagues as the Melbourne metropolitan area and neighbouring Mitchell Shire return to 'stay at home' restrictions for a period of six weeks.   The impact of COVID-19 on our college communities continues to be UCA's primary focus and, to that end, we announce the following initiatives:

UCA Online Discussion Forums - next session Tuesday 14 July
UCA's online discussion forums provide our Members with ongoing development and nationwide connection.  Sessions run via ZOOM at 2:00pm AEST on the second Tuesday of the month and our next session, Offering a Collegiate Experience Online, will be held this Tuesday 14 July - register here

Further information can be found at our brochure here  Note: topics for October and November will be announced shortly.

Conversations with Colleagues online - first session Tuesday 28 July
We were thrilled with the response to our first online forum, Ideas for business improvement in a post COVID-19 world, and find a brief report outlining its issues and possible remedies here   A number of suggestions emanating from this discussion are being acted on. In response to a request for opportunities to connect with College Heads throughout Australia, UCA has introduced an informal one hour session where College Heads may ask their colleagues a question, share stories, debrief, get and give advice.

Sessions will be held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2:00pm (AEST) and facilitated by a member of the UCA Executive, but otherwise, topics and agenda are set by the group.  Register your interest here

College COVIDSafe Action Plan
In response to a request for advice on managing the return to college and ensuring the wellbeing of its residents and staff, Rose Alwyn shared St John's College: COVDSafe Action Plan. Recipients have found this to be an extremely useful document and whilst it is St John's specific, Rose is comfortable in sharing it with colleagues in the event they may find it helpful. Please contact Deborah Pugh to request a copy of this Action Plan here

Whilst the disruption caused by the pandemic has been significant for individual colleges and for the collegiate community as a whole, the Executive Committee will continue to support colleagues and to provide information on matters of concern.  Please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Executive if you have a concern that you would like to be addressed - contact us

With best wishes,
Barbara Green
President
Collegiate Way International newsletter (first edition) is here
Many of you will recall the 2nd Collegiate Way International Conference, incorporating our own UCA Conference, convened by Ian Walker, in 2016.  You will be aware that the 4th CWI Conference, to be held in Dunedin, New Zealand has now been postponed until 2022.  This first edition of the CWI newsletter comes as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic and welcomes new members and contributions to future newsletters.  UCA Committee members, Barbara Green and Ian Walker are members of the CWI Advisory Board and would welcome your contribution to CWI.  Read the newsletter here

National Framework for Cautious Resumption of Face-to-Face Teaching
With face-to-face learning being cautiously re-introduced at university campuses we remind UCA members of the national framework developed by Universities Australia in consultation with health authorities and SafeWork Australia.  The Principals and Protocols for Reducing the Potential Risk of COVID-19 Transmission at Universities can be found here
