The UCA holds a National Biennial Conference as well as an Annual mini-Conference on alternative years and gratefully acknowledges the important contribution of our sponsors, particularly in supporting our major conference which significantly contributes to the professional development and personal interaction of members.
In 2016 we were pleased to continue the relationship with our Major sponsor BigAir. We also appreciated the major contribution of our Conference hosts, University House and Australian National University and the generous support of Burgmann College and Chartwells who provided our delegates with a superb dinner in the newly built Burgmann College dining hall. As always, we value the ongoing contribution of our three General sponsors Cater Care, Hotel Space and StarRez. Finally, we thank our Product sponsors for their contribution; ABC Bedding, Paper Monkey and Tanda.
Without the assistance of our sponsors it would be extremely difficult to produce the same high level of quality for our conference, and we invite all members to support them as the industry’s preferred suppliers.
The UCA Conference 2016 combined with The Second Collegiate Way International Conference held at the Australian National University, Canberra, from 13 to 17 November 2016. With the theme ‘Collegiate Communities – Global Contexts’, the Conference provided a platform for members and our industry partners to learn more about initiatives and issues within collegiate communities worldwide.
Our sponsors showcased their services and products in the industry display area, situated outside the main conference room, as well as through presentations and informal discussions with members.
Following is a list of our sponsors, their services and how to connect with them.
We were pleased to have BigAir as the Major sponsor for our 2016 Conference. BigAir has successfully connected over 40,000 students at more than 200 university accommodations across Australia will fully managed, fast, reliable Internet and networking services. Once again Jean Morel was available to discuss BigAir’s latest services. Jean was also able to outline Big Air’s initiatives for 2017 to all conference delegates at one of the conference dinners. As always, they are a generous supporter of University Colleges Australia.
University House was another Major sponsor and provided the perfect Conference venue with beautiful and tranquil surrounds conveniently located on the ANU campus and only minutes away from Canberra’s top attractions. The vast majority of our delegates chose to stay on site to enjoy the warm and intimate atmosphere of this classic and carefully preserved 1950’s building.
UCA welcomed Cater Care as a General sponsor for the 2016 Conference. Cater Care is a long term supporter of UCA and one of Australia’s leading providers of contract catering, accommodation and facility management services. Jonathan Storer was on hand to discuss how Cater Care can assist colleges to produce a healthy and balanced menu plan whilst incorporating the design of formal dinners, special functions, conferences and theme days in order to generate fun and variety.
Hotel Space was, once again, one of our General sponsors for the 2016 Conference. Utilising student rooms during the non-term periods provides a valuable income stream for residential colleges. The Hotel Space organisation takes the hassle out of letting student rooms in holiday periods by providing a central service to Colleges that will cover all aspects such as promotion, administration, billing and payments. Both Toby Raphael and Daniel Symonds presented members with their services to assist them in increasing their revenue stream.
Established in 1992, StarRez has always been a loyal supporter of UCA and we were once again delighted to have them as a general sponsor of the 2016 Conference. StarRez offer comprehensive student housing software designed in collaboration with University Colleges to service all administrative processes such as student applications, room assignment, billing and room & infrastructure maintenance. Members learnt about StarRez’s latest developments to assist students and their collegiate communities.
Some of the most memorable moments in college life occur when sharing a meal and stimulating discussion in the college dining hall, and so it was at the Collegiate Way International Conference. On the Monday evening, delegates were treated to a superb meal in the beautiful new dining hall at Burgmann College. This dinner was jointly sponsored by Burgmann College and their catering partner, Chartwells, a division of Compass Group. The UCA is extremely grateful to both Chartwells and Ms Sally Renouf, Principal of Burgmann College, for their most generous hospitality and support.
Another of our staunch supporters and Product sponsor is the Australian Bedding Company, specialists in complete fit-out for the accommodation industry. Mark Dennison, Managing Director ABC Commercial Living, was on hand in the industry display area to discuss the latest in student furniture, mattresses and bedding options.
We were delighted to welcome Paper Monkey as our Product sponsor. Paper Monkey is a Canberra based visual strategy and graphic design firm specialising in the education sector. Since 1996 they have worked with residential colleges and universities to refine their brands and marketing material. Ben and Toni Lopez were available to advise delegates how to design their marketing campaigns to improve not just the quantity but also the quality of their student applications.
The UCA was pleased to welcome Tasmin Trezise, Director of Tanda as a Product sponsor. As a student at QUT, Tasmin started working on an idea to help organisations move from paper and excel time sheets and rosters to an online system. His company now assists over 15,000 users Australia wide. Tasmin was available to demonstrate Tanda’s online system and to show how colleges could benefit from online rostering, payroll and leave management to get the most out of their workforce.
